Master of Disaster helps prepare youth for disasters like floods, wildfires, earthquakes and tsunamis. Although it's received a very positive response, we’ve also gathered a lot of feedback from public school teachers, Indigenous educators and youth from across BC. We’re now ready to translate this feedback into action and positive change.
To do this, we’re assembling a group of volunteers to help shape the future of the Master of Disaster program. We’re hoping 2 or 3 myPITA members can lend their experience and expertise to this work. The revised program will be featured at the myPITA Fall Conference on Friday, October 25th. Although all expressions of interest will be warmly received, we encourage participation from teachers with a passion for inclusive education, Indigenous education, or curriculum design. Interested? We want to ensure that Master of Disaster meets the needs of all students across BC. We’ve gathered some great ideas and suggestions, and we have a lot to share, but we also need some help. So, we're pulling together a group of education and emergency management experts to help us make some important decisions about the future of the program.
Where will the group meet?
The Master of Disaster Program Enhancement Group will meet five times between April and June, with meetings held both in-person and online. In-person folks will meet at:

Can't make it in-person? No problem! Group members will also receive an online meeting invitation. You'll just need access to a computer, an internet connection, and a webcam.

What will we discuss?
At each meeting we'll start with a quick presentation and an introduction to a core area of feedback we've received from our partners. We'll then dive into a guided group discussion. The goal of each meeting is to identify the best ways we can make Master of Disaster more engaging, more flexible and more inclusive.

MyPITA can provide a paid release day during the Program Redesign period for MyPITA members working on this project to give them time to create appropriate lesson plans and supports.
